Heather Brae Shortbreads is a Master Baker that has been baking traditional family favourite treats since 1941. We are 100% Australian owned and operated. Our core range of classic Jam Tarts, Neenish Tarts, Yo Yos, Melting Moments, Chocolate Fingers and our biscuit range rekindle childhood memories of products purchased from the local bakery or corner store. Our products can now be found in over 3000 supermarkets throughout Australia in both private label and Heather Brae brand.
From humble beginnings operating out of a small bake house in the war years, Heather Brae has evolved into a modern, professional medium sized business based in Melbourne, Victoria. The baking continues, albeit on a larger scale, using the same family recipes and values. History has it that Heather Brae supplied biscuits to the Australian troops in the 1940s and that tradition continues even now.
In 2008 the business moved into a larger, purpose fit-out building and invested in ‘state of the art’ new bakery equipment to achieve its growth potential and obtain best practice. In 2015 we built on this already highly modern sophisticated plant, by investing in another major production line as well as implementing significant improvements and efficiencies to our existing processes. These improvements have increased our capacity to 100,000 products produced in one production shift.
Managing Director, Bassam Wakim (Bass), is very passionate about his family business, being a hands-on operator since 1989. He enjoys the challenge of hard work, setting goals and achieving the very best results. He accredits his attitude to his parents who were driven with impeccable work ethic and integrity. He also attributes his success to his earlier years as an elite athlete achieving Australian team selection on 3 occasions in the Olympic sport of Canoe racing. This passion for “love of food” and “strive for excellence” is part of the culture of all the Heather Brae team.
Heather Brae’s success is attributed to loyal and committed staff with a commitment to exceed our customer’s expectations in both quality products, and service. Heather Brae consistently leads the industry in developing new and innovative products, while still focusing on our traditional core home-style range.
Heather Brae has an ethical buying policy whereby we purchase Australian ingredients from local suppliers wherever possible. In the event an ingredient cannot be produced locally we will use a local supplier to source the ingredient on our behalf. We support Australian companies.
